National Women’s Month – Celebrating Equality & Inclusivity
Everyone has an important woman in their lives, someone who nurtures, provides love, advice, strength and stability. Women account for almost 50% of the world’s population, and in the Philippines alone, there are more than 57 million women!
National Women’s Month in the Philippines is celebrated every March to honour and recognise the contributions and achievements of Filipino women to society, culture, politics, and the economy. It also serves as a platform to raise awareness about gender equality and women’s rights issues. Since 1988, the first week of March has been declared National Women’s Month, coinciding with International Women’s Day, which is held on 8 March. In 2024, the theme for National Women’s Month is a continuation of the 2023 theme “WE for gender equality and inclusive society” with WE symbolising ‘Women and Everyone.’
Throughout March, various government agencies, non-government organisations, and women’s groups organise workshops, conferences, and other activities aimed at empowering women, promoting gender equality, and advocating for equal women’s rights. The events often focus on key issues such as gender-based violence, reproductive health, financial empowerment, political participation, and the role of women in the nation as a whole.
There are many things that we can all do this month to help inspire inclusion and empowerment:
- Attend local events for Women’s Month
- Support locally women-owned businesses
- Volunteer at, or donate to a women’s shelter
- Educate yourself on important women’s issues; what challenges do Filipino women face?
- Celebrate women in film and the arts; host a movie night featuring female leads and directors, attend an exhibition by female artists.
For many women, championing their own health is a key step to self-empowerment, and after all, maintaining good health and well being is the first step to living a life that is successful fulfilling, and inspiring. DNA tests open up a world of information that can help women become the best version of themselves. From pre-natal to health and wellbeing to clinical tests, EASYDNA Philippines offers a test for every stage of life.
Prenatal Tests, which are undertaken during pregnancy, can help to determine a range of different things such as the paternity of the unborn baby, as well as your baby’s predisposition to a number of serious conditions or illnesses.
Health and Wellbeing Tests look at selected genes and understanding their impact on an individual, can help improve your health and pave the path to wellness and vitality. From Celiac testing, to testing for food intolerances, to analysing the best nutrition needs for your unique genetic makeup, all women are included.
Finally, Clinical Tests will help optimise your health and medically assist you in different ways, depending on the test you choose. Discover your genetic predisposition to a range of inherited and non-inherited conditions or find out if you are more likely to develop certain types of cancer. These tests all have the potential to help you to live a happier, healthier and longer life.
DNA testing can empower Filipino women by providing them with valuable information about their health, ancestry, relationships, and identity. National Women’s Month is not only a time for celebration but also a period for reflection on the progress made towards gender equality and the challenges that women still face on a daily basis. It highlights the importance of recognising and addressing the issues faced by women in the Philippines and around the world.
